Well, last night marked the end of two weeks of swimming lessons for the kids. Eva had Level 2 at 9 AM in the morning and Eli had the preschool class at 7 PM. We decided to do them the same two weeks this year instead of spreading it out (Eva one session; Eli the next) which meant we started and ended everyday at the Jackson City Pool. We wondered if we would be relieved when the two weeks were over, but I found myself yesterday realizing that I would miss having to go to the pool so often…having an excuse to sit for 45 minutes in the morning sun watching my daughter, under the guidance of her wonderful lifeguard teachers, accomplish swimming feats I didn’t think she could do. (I brought a book with me and occasionally read a few pages, but mostly I just watched.) I’ll miss having the excuse in the evenings, to put on my swimsuit (at the end of last week I bought my first new suit in at least three years because I saw daylight through the bottoms of my other one when I took it off.) While Eli and Bob went to the baby pool for lessons, I gave Lily some little dips in the shallow end which she seemed to love and obeyed Eva’s constant requests to “Watch this!” Maybe having the chance for extra practice helped Eva pass Level 2. (Next year she will move on to Level 3 and based on my observations, she’ll be surpassing her mother’s swimming skills at that time!) I hope we will still get to the pool a few more afternoons or evenings this summer, despite not having our excuses anymore.

So glad that Eva and Eli have had such wonderful swim instructors. They both seem to feel pretty confident and secure about being in the water. All I can remember about my ONE swim lesson when I was Eva’s age is how much I wanted to just get out of there! And then I was able to pursuade my Mom that I wasn’t ready for swimming yet.

Where’d you get your new suit at? I’m in the market too.
